Noosa conference and event guide

Nature_3.2-r Brad says....

Following on from Jane's post about the Noosa wedding guide, there's also a new business events guide for anyone planning a Noosa conference or event.

There's loads of information about venues, entertainment, incentive ideas, suggested itineraries and local support services, plus basics such as transport options.

Noosa really lends itself to conferences and incentives, thanks to its rare mix of natural beauty, outdoor activities, interesting venues and first-class dining and spa options. You can send a request for proposal via the site or call our consultants to talk through your needs.

Noosa wedding guide

Wedding 3 Thought I'd point out this new Noosa wedding guide, in case you're thinking of getting married in Noosa (and hey, what a beautiful place to do it).

It saves you hunting around separately for a celebrant, venue, photographer, hairdresser and everything else you need, because they're now all on one site. There's an archive of real weddings that have been held in Noosa, if you're looking for ideas, and you can also click at the top of the page to look at Noosa accommodation options.

The wedding guide also includes contact details for local wedding planners, if you want someone else to do all the organisation for you. Personally, I reckon not having to do anything other than turn up and enjoy the day sounds like a marvellous plan!

What's with all the fit people?

Blue water swim Oh great, another event designed to highlight how unfit and unsporting I am!

USM Events has announced details of the Noosa Winter Festival, which will be held on the weekend of May 22-23. Incorporating popular events such as the Noosa Blue Water Swim and the Noosa Half Marathon, the festival joins the annual Noosa Triathlon in bringing thousands of athletes into Noosa.

Entries are now open if you want to participate, but it should also be good for spectators, given that it will take place on the beaches, waterways and hinterland surrounds of Noosa.

Coming to Noosa this year?

Copy of beach_1.9 Brad says...

Now that we're all back in the grind of work, school and deadlines (the Christmas holidays are but a distant memory!), it's time to start planning the next holiday.

If you're thinking about coming to Noosa this year, you might want to take a look at our events calendar, to see what's coming up. If you want to visit during a peak period, such as Easter, school holidays or Christmas / New Year, it pays to book ahead to get the best choice of accommodation.

You'll find detailed information about Noosa accommodation options on our website, along with information about the Noosa climate, holiday seasons and what to see and do when you get here.

In praise of sunshine

Sunshine Beach Please don't let summer ever end. It's been so hot, and we've been swimming, swimming, swimming. And then we go swimming.

I took this pic the other day on Sunshine Beach - check out that sky!

Surfing champions headed for Noosa

Festival surfing I saw Layne Beachley wandering around the Noosa Farmers' Market yesterday, which reminded me that the Noosa Festival of Surfing is not that far away. (How did we get into February already?!)

The festival, held in March, is looking like being a huge event this year, with an impressive list of events, competitors and big-name sponsors. Apart from numerous different surfing competitions, including stand-up paddle surfing and family challenges, there are concerts, an expo and other land-based events.

There will also be a celebrity surf and golf challenge, hosted by Noosa resident and former tennis champion Pat Rafter and including Beachley and other world champion surfers. It should be a good week - even for those of us who can't surf!

Underwater sights

Underwater world If you're heading to Noosa for a holiday, it might be useful to know that Underwater World now runs a shuttle bus from Noosa, departing Noosa Heads each morning and returning in the afternoon.

Underwater World is in Mooloolaba, about half an hour down the coast, and is really worth a visit, especially if you have kids or you're unlucky enough to strike wet weather. For information on the shuttle service, click here.

Romance on the river

Gondola2 Did you know Noosa has its own gondola? A funny place to find a Venetian-style gondola, perhaps, but it's very popular. It's ideal for a Noosa wedding, an anniversary, romantic night out or even for a group of friends. Check it out.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate

Forget any New Year's resolutions you might have made (if you haven't already) because you absolutely have to check out this new chocolate shop when you come to Noosa. Cocoa Chocolat is based in Eumundi, about 15 minutes from Noosa, and has just opened a shop in Hastings Street... which I happened to walk pass the other day!

They make boutique chocolates using Belgian couverture chocolate, King Island cream and local produce, and they're absolutely divine. You'll find them on Etheridge Street in Eumundi or in the Sheraton Noosa on Hastings Street (walk up the side of Cato's Bar, past the bottle shop). Enjoy!

Noosa beaches the best

Noosa beaches

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year and have a few days off to relax and hit the beach, as I'm doing.

I wasn't at all surprised to see that Noosa was recently voted the best place in Australia for a beach holiday, in a public vote through the travel website TakeABreak.com.au. Those of us who are lucky enough to live here, and those who have holidayed here, know that Noosa beaches take a lot of beating. For those who aren't familiar with the area, here's a rough guide...

Noosa Main Beach: This is the best option for famillies or those who are not confident in the surf, as it has gentle waves and is patrolled by surf lifesavers (some of whom are an attraction in themselves!) This is also the best place to take a surf lesson if you're a beginner, as you don't have to contend with big surf. Main Beach also has the advantage of being adjacent to the accommodation, restaurants, bars and shops of Hastings Street.

National Park beaches: There are several beaches in the headland section of the Noosa National Park, up the hill from Hastings Street, including the unofficial nudist beach Alexandria Bay. These beaches are gorgeous, and again popular with surfers, but they are unpatrolled, so you need to go carefully.

Sunshine Beach: Another patrolled beach, equally beautiful but with much bigger surf. The beach stretches for 15 kilometres and is very popular with surfers, particularly up towards the headland. Sunshine Beach is where a lot of Noosa's many resident celebrities choose to live.

Peregian Beach: About 10 kilometres south of Sunshine Beach, heading down the coast road, you'll find Peregian, another patrolled surf beach. Peregian Beach has a great village feel and plenty of shops and cafes when you've had enough of the sand.

Eastern beaches: The long, long stretch between Sunshine Beach and Peregian Beach is divided into Sunrise Beach, Castaways Beach and Marcus Beach. These beaches are not patrolled but are the place to go if you want plenty of space or a long walk on the sand. The stretch around Castaways and Marcus is also a designated dog walking beach, where you can let them off the lead, and is popular with kitesurfers.

Noosa North Shore: You can drive on this long stretch of beach on the northern side of Noosa (cross on the ferry at Tewantin), as well as fish, surf and camp. It's known for its coloured sand cliffs and you feel like you're miles away, even though it only takes about 10 minutes to get there.
